This Week at the Shop: August 1st

School supplies are one of my longest love affairs. Books and pencils make me weak at the knees. Welcome to the first hint of… dare I say it… FALL. Treat yourself to something special now that the kids are back to school (or will be soon). We’ve got lots to choose from!

Restock on hot sauce, BBQ sauce, and mustards from Best Boy & Co. And I don’t know if you can see it there, but that’s definitely mustard with heirloom apples. Um. Yum. Also, all profits go to charity. I’ll just go ahead and put it all on hold for you now.

Part Time Hooker brought us some pretty little goodies: tea light covers and bracelets!

New little lovelies from Bebito. Look at how cute they are, just hangin’ around! Some with little love notes tucked in their pockets no less.

Natural wood stacking toy (and more to come) from Red Barn Collective. These zip pouches from Oh Sew Betty are perfect for bringing the essentials to your favorite music festivals.

Coming Up

First Friday Celebration: Savannah Norris: Friday, August 5th, 6-8pm: Every month Homespun: Modern Handmade hosts a celebration in collaboration with iDADA’s First Friday events. Our shows change every other month with various artists showcasing work in painting, illustration, photography, ceramics, and so much more. For the months of July and August, Homespun will be showing the work of local artist Savannah Norris. Savannah is a freelance stylist and a former student of the Art Institute of Indianapolis. A jack of all trades, Savannah has experience as a seamstress, illustrator, designer, carpenter, and palm reader. We’ll be showing her dreamcatcher pieces in the store as well as featuring a large installation of Savannah’s in our shop window.

Pickle Tasting with Indiana Pickle Co.: Saturday, August 6th, 11am-4pm: These pickles are kind of a big dill: jars of Indiana Pickle Company‘s delicious gourmet goods have been flying off our shelves since we began carrying them. If you’ve wanted to sample these spears, you’re in luck – join us from 11am – 4pm on Saturday, August 6th as IPC hosts a pop-up tasting in our store. Cucumbers, carrots, and more brined in craft beers or moonshine from local purveyors like Sun King, Triton, Hotel Tango, Upland, and Flat12 will be available for you to sample (and, of course, purchase!). Fair warning – they’re all delicious.

Kids Rock the Park 2016: Sunday, August 21st, 10am-3pm: Homespun is sponsoring and vending at this amazing fundraiser. It’s Girls Rock! Indy’s annual Kids Rock The Park at Broad Ripple Park, the fun fundraiser for their camps and year-round programming. Cover is $5 per person, with ages 6 and under free. Featuring live music for the whole family as well as face painters, bounce houses, food trucks, a dunk tank, photo booths, a musical “petting zoo,” a carnival midway, and many more games, crafts and fun stuff.

Workshop: Succulent Terrarium: Saturday, August 13th, 1-2:30pm: Low-maintenance, lovely, and easy to assemble: succulent terrariums are the perfect spring project to bring some green back into your world. Join Rana Salame in our shop as she shares her expertise in basic succulent cutting, rooting, and plant care. This class is great for beginners and open to children, too – one child and one caregiver together may purchase a ticket. Please note: one ticket is worth one terrarium – if you would like to made additional terrariums, please be sure to purchase additional tickets.

See ya next week, friends!
