In this hands-on workshop, lead by bookbinders Teresa Walker and Chelsea van der Meer, from Yonder Bound, students will learn how to make small seed packet envelopes and bind them into a little book using decorative papers. They will also learn how to make button and string closures. To top it off students will receive a variety of flower seeds available for students to fill their finished books with. All supplies and tools are included in the cost of the workshop.
Yonder Bound is a division of The National Library Bindery Company – a truly marvelous hidden gem right here in Indy. They are currently nestled in a modern office building on State Ave, but upon walking through the doors, its like stepping into the past. Since 1873, the bindery has faithfully preserved traditional bookmaking techniques developed during the turn of the century. Originally established to convey the written word to the early settlers and pioneers of the Wild West, the bindery now specializes in producing high-end, deluxe edition books, archival quality preservation of publications, and restoration of antique books. The bindery has recently expanded to offering year-round bookmaking classes to the Indianapolis community. Find out more about the NLBco here: www.nlbco.com.
