First Friday: Jessica Kramer

March 2, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

First Friday: Jessica Kramer

Every month, Homespun: Modern Handmade hosts a celebration in collaboration with iDADA’s First Friday events. Our shows change every other month with various artists showcasing work in painting, illustration, photography, ceramics, and so much more.

For the months of March and April, we’ll be featuring the work of local artist, Jessica Kramer. Once Removed is a collection of monotypes on paper inspired by Jessica’s late mother’s paintings. The series, through both technique and subject, explores grief, beauty, and the distance of memory.

Growing up as the child of an artist, Jessica’s visual vocabulary was informed by her mother’s work at a young age. As an adult, Jessica still finds herself surrounded, and inspired, by her mother’s paintings. The monotype process pays homage to the colors, compositions, and brush strokes of her mother. The final product is removed from the original, the original, only a temporary painting, washed away so the plate can be used once more. The final piece is what remains on the paper — the impression, the shadow, the once-removed memory.

We hope you can join us during Jessica’s First Friday Gallery Openings in store on Friday, March 2nd and Friday, April 6th. We’ll be toasting to this beautiful work with treats and drinks in store as well.
