First Friday featuring Hannah Burnworth
November 4, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Come join us during November’s First Friday Gallery Walk with a new exhibit featuring Indiana artist Hannah Burnworth!
Hannah has enjoyed settling down in North Manchester with her husband, Jabin, and infant son, Ira. After graduation from Anderson College, she taught art at Fishers High School, near Indianapolis, then moved north for a stint at Peru High School, and finally landed at Manchester Community Schools. In the meantime, she completed her master’s degree at the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis.
She and her grandmother and cousins would sit together by the hour with old garden magazines, cut pictures out and create collages and picture stories. She also enthusiastically added that her art experiences in elementary and high school were excellent. When she returned to college she knew what she would do. She would study art.
Hannah has taken on several enormous mural projects. One of which is the painting on the west wall of the Riverbridge Electric business on Main Street. There is a mural at Manchester Intermediate School and one at the Manchester Community Schools administrative offices in the boardroom. Though designed by Hannah, she gives all the credit to the kids who did the painting.
Hannah labels her personal artistic style as contemporary mixed-media because it’s fun and it’s alive. She says she creates whimsical pieces often inspired by nature with paint, paper, and stitching. Her work is a collage of layering an eclectic mix of her own drawings with materials such as magazines, nature, or recyclables. She edits her work by layering over the image she chooses to change or simply removing pieces before all the gluing begins.
